Good evening all

am I right in thinking I can only update a Disco 3 2005 sat nav with a 2015 disc? Do the sat navs cover Europe?

Nope newest you can go is 2012, the copy discs are a waste of money, which to be fair so is the sat nav!
All I use the D3 nav for is road names, ie where the hell am I now?

Yes if you search the menu you will find most of europe.

Tom Tom app on your phone is much more useful, foc updates as well.

Thanks for the info, it just seems a shame to have the display there with the potential for sat nav and to then use your phone.

I did try one of the copy discs, and initially thought yes it works just fine, but randomly it would just drop out and lose all the screen, or read totally wrong for days, put the old disc back in and it was all back to normal.
It really is a poor sat nav. I dont even think it can take a postcode?
Dont forget it is now very old tech, but in its time was high tech.
I had a D2 with factory sat nav, it was the size of a std car radio and all you got was little arrows come up to tell you where to go!

As Lynall says, the latest LR disc you can get is 2012, but there are later aftermarket ones which work fine. I have a 2015 disc which finds postcodes with no trouble and works seamlessly. There are 2018 discs out there, but they don’t include the voice command database, which is stored on the same disc, so if you use that then I think 2015 is your limit. I agree the LR SATNAV isn’t as slick as more modern offerings, but personally I find it beats a suction based phone holder and trailing cables. But that’s down to what suits individually.
