Hi, I rebuilt my front axle and swivels after having a CV joint shear, after that I had an ABS fault.
After lots of investigation i replaced the Webaco unit in the passenger footwell.

My ABS light has gone out however the ABS does not seem to be operating correctly

If I am pulling upto a junction and get to moving really slowly, the ABS kicks in and it takes longer to stop.

Any ideas?

I am tempted to just remove the ABS altogether, is this allowed?

IMO if the fault came up right away after you worked at the wheel hub the problem was there not at the ABS ECU and that's why it doesnt work well... unplug one sensor and see if you get the ABS warning with this replacement ECU maybe it's DOA and it just keeps the warning off... i doubt that you'll pass MOT with ABS removed if it was factory fitted
 
Actually the ABS is very simple to be disabled(not entirely removed) cos the brakes will work normally like on a non-ABS vehicle without the system's involvment, the warning lamp has to be disabled and the ECU removed(or just it's fuse) that's all
 
I Removed ALL the ABS on my 94 Disco + the bulb from the clocks ! Even took the valve of from the passenger wing ! Re piped & the brakes work ACE !:):):) If it aint there it can't be MOT'D :p:p:p As in it will NOT FAIL !!:p:p:p

Correct! Maybe some can't understand its that simple and all u have to do.

My old RR never had it, never any issues unless on snow, the disco's ABS never operates unless there's frost, ice or snow on the ground, even in heavy rain my wheels don't slide or lock up, and all down the the very good "sticky" Goodyear tyres fitted. :D
 
When mine had the ABS it used to scare me Sh*tless didn't think it would stop :eek:
Since taking it off the harder I PRESS the FASTER IT STOPS !:):)
 
Stop and only if your lucky, but better being able to steer around than heading in a straight line for whatever ever is in front. :D
 
then be happy that the MOT in UK is so rudimentary... they would reject here a vehicle which was factory fitted with ABS and it was disabled cos the computer tells them how the vehicle left the factory..,. they'll reject it even with bigger than std tyres:mad:
 
It's in the vehicle's data in the computer that it was fitted with ABS then they;ll see that the warning is not doing the self test
 
Thanks for the relplies, interesting to know i am not the only peron who found it a little scary...
I will see how i get on and may consider removal, I will also try the disconection of the sensor again and see if iget the same fault.
