Hi guys, got a question regarding the alarm system on my range rover. Its a 96 diesel p38 DSE.

When I bought it, the previous owner informed me he had disabled the alarm as it had locked his missus out of the car. The siren under the bonnet is unplugged and the key fob doesn't do anything when pressed (no lights, no central locking) but the light on the dash does flash when locked with the key.

just to be sure, I've replaced the locking mechanism in the door with a know working example as the courtesy light was dead and I wanted to be sure I could put the eka code in.

Question is simple and possibly daft... If I plug the module back in what's going happen? Am I going to imobilise the the thing completely?!

Should I get some fresh batteries into the key fob first? Just worried that if the alarm goes off I won't be able to shut itit up! Also, Is the becm going to need to be synced or will the eka code clear that? Does anyone have any other advice that would help restore the alarm and remote central locking?

Thanks for any help

You could open a space-time portal.

but I doubt that.

More likely, you need a knowledgeable assistant and a code reading device, in case it all goes Pete Tong on you and locks you out.:(

Can't think that an unplugged sounder makes a lot of difference to alarm other than it won't make a noise. Maybe it's been disabled in the BECM. Need diag on it to find out what the problem is.
