I recently bought a half finished project and all the cooling system hoses were removed when I bought it.
I have figured out the main hoses in the system but there are 2 small hoses left which I am unsure of..
They are both on the top of the inlet manifold.
One looks like it has a one way valve inside the male connection and the other on the opposite side is much smaller (5/6mm) and has PTFE tape round it.
Any ideas where they connect to?

They aren't coolant,the big one with the nut on is the vacuum feed from the inlet manifold to the servo,if you don't have a servo just block it off or it won't run right. The other one also looks like it's a vacuum feed from the inlet manifold but looks to me like someones added that on as i've not seen one there before,again just block it of if you don't need it.

Some of the hoses were connected when I bought it but most weren't.
There is a hose connecting the servo to an inlet in the centre of where the 2 carbs bolt onto. Is this connected wrong? If so, what should this inlet be connected to?

There is also a small hose connecting the dizzy to an inlet on the N/S carb. I presumed this was the vacuum advance? This could also be wrong though...?

The one to the dizzy is right it's the vacuum advance like you say,the one in the middle of the carbs on the inlet is from the cooling system and is supposed to go to the expansion tank if it has one.If it's been run with it connected to the servo the servo will probably be full of water,if your lucky the pipe will be blocked with crap,they usually are.
If the engine is fitted to a series landy you need to drill a hole in the top of the radiator and solder a pipe into it so you can fit the hose from the inlet to the rad

Hi

Here's an image of my V8 engine bay - it's in a P6 but the connections should be the same.

1) goes to radiator, it's the carb tower bleed and as V8jon says, is normally plugged up with crap.

2) goes through to the 'air' section of the manifold - you could put your servo in here but you'd need a non-return valve in the pipe (they do exist - they look like little spaceships)

3) is where my vac. advance is plugged into , on the engine side of the throttle body.

4) is where my servo is joined to, with the non return valve screwed into the manifold as in your picture.

If your servo is connected to (2) then great, provided there's a non-return valve if it's connected to (1) then not so good.

The engine has not been fired since I got it and there is no coolant in it yet so should be ok.

Just want to double check what you mean though.
Should the hose fron the carb inlet run to the expansion tank or to the radiator?

At the moment I have a restricted hose running from the top of the rad to the expansion tank to remove air, and another hose running from the expansion tank to the bottom of the rad to take excess coolant to the expansion tank when hot and return it when cooled. Would this be correct? I have plumbed this in going on info that i've read on a few websites but as you can tell my personal knowledge is limited!

From memory I don't think there is a connection on my carb tower where your (2) is...

Should I take the hose from the top of the rad and redirect to the carb tower?
Do I 'T' in the expansion tank into this hose to remove air?

Any idea what the small inlet that is opposite (4) on my engine is and what I should do with it??
 
On the rad,there should be 2 small outllets . One goes to the expansion tank and one goes to the carb tower. On the old rad that was in there,the carb tower one was plugged with a bolt and the carb tower had a stub hose with a bolt in it.Its only there,I'm led to believe, to allow air to escape from the inlet manifold passages.

Yep, that'd do it.

That may be the case - I've only seen P6/SD1 V8s with that bolt in.

What Harleyman said - should be 2 exits on rad - the lower of the 2 (as in closest to the bottom of the rad) should be joined to the carb tower bleed, the upper one to the expansion tank. The pipe from the carb tower is designed, as said, to just bleed air out of the top of the manifold and so heat the manifold uniformly and avoid hotspots. My previous one was blocked, I swapped to a unblocked manifold and it seems to runs a bit cooler and pinks less. They're a right bastard to unblock, which is why I bought another manifold.

Looks like some kind of vacuum take off. If the carb(s) don't have a vac advance point then use that pipe for it, if they do then plug it up.

Just to point out that this is all done off an ex SD1 engine - the landy spec might be slightly different.
 
Ok got most of that.

Just to check, is the hose from the top of the rad to the expansion tank for letting excess coolant out of the system when hot and returning it when cooled, and also for bleeding off air into the expansion tank?

If the hose from the bottom of the rad was connected up to the carb tower would the coolant not be bypassing the rad if it was getting pulled through the small hose on the bottom of the rad then out of the 32mm outlet on the bottom of the rad which is connected to the water pump?
