Hello everyone!

I'm new on the forum. I have a Freelander 1 Td4 from 2003 and I'm hoping I would get some lights in regards to my dilemma. In this image I just put up, underneath the alternator as you can see, near the positive terminal cable there is that loose connector and for the love of the universe, I have no idea what it is, if it is even meant to be connected somewhere. I was messing around the alternator since I do have problems with it (gave up its soul, RIP) and I discovered it by accident.

Anyone has a small idea on what could that connector be? Its purpose? Is it alternator related? Any suggestion would be kindly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

The wiring is short so it must be close to the manifold, maybe MAP sensor but seems a little short, and has three pins your is a two pin, it look like it under and at the rear of the starter motor.

what colour wires does it have.

I wonder could it the HPFP connector what is wrong with the car.

If it is the above i doubt your car would start.

The HPFP connector does not have a spring as you can see, so rules that out.

Crank sensor.

It's the connector like in the very last image, with that pin on it and a single wire. The wire color, I don't know, it seems to be black to me but it might be another color? Because the engine's pretty dirty down there 😅

As for what's wrong with my car.. well, it starts and runs on battery, not alternator. I'm not sure if it's the wire going into the alternator, or alternator itself, since the battery light literally turns off once I accelerate aggressively.

On the alternator there should be 2 connections. A big wire to a bolt terminal, power to the battery so don't earth it. And a connection with 2 or 3 wires. Confirm both are connected.

The big wire is definitely connected, I checked and saw. The 2 pin connector, in my case, well... it is connected, but if I gently tug on it, it'll just come out. So I'm thinking, that connector might have some issues causing me the whole problem I have..

If it has just one wire, then it's likely the oil pressure light connector, which grounds through the block, via the switch. Does the oil pressure light come on when the ignition is turned on?
