Hi All,

So I replaced my UJ made alignment marks on both mating surfaces, and on the yokes, but failed to make a mark for the grease nipple so am not sure i pUT it in the right location. Put it all back together and went on a test run even had it up to 120 km/h (downhill with tail wind) and am not sure I felt a vibration other than engine and or road, if there was a vibrstion it was slight enough to make me unsure. So.. I'm not sure what I should do now.

Dismantle everything and move the nipple one position over and go on another test drive and see if it's better or worse or just leave it since I am not sure there was much of a vibration anyway? What are the consequences of just leaving it as it is? We drive mostly secondary roads or unpaved so don't take it up over 90km/h anway.

Advice welcome

grease nipple location wont matter as long as you can get a gun on it to grease it,was it rear or front ,rear should have both yokes in the same phase front not

Hi james, thanks for the quick reply!

It was the front prop rear UJ (transfer case side), yeah yokes on the front are not on the same phase. Like I said I marked the yoke positions in relation to each other and the mounting faces differential and transfer case side, so am 100% certain that they are correct, was only the nipple (Haynes say "note the position of the grease nipple on the spider, in relation to the the adjacent shaft yoke and coupling flange yoke (make alignment marks on the yokes). This is vital to ensure correct reassembly and shaft balance is maintained ") I took that to mean the nipple position is equally important as the yoke positions.

I really wouldn't worry too much about the balance with them, if that's your main concern re grease nipple. I've had both on and off a couple of times and never once marked them up, they're all good!! :)

Only thing I check and make sure of on the grease nipples is if they are drilled at an angle in the UJ itself, then I make sue to fit the way they came off. Otherwise the grease gun is a right PITA trying to get it on the nipple.

Cheers

Yeah too late to worry about the angle of the nipple now I guess.. I can get it to fit in two positions so it will have to do.. I was mostly worried about the balance, but you guys have put my mind at ease - thanks for that!

Cheers
