Hi Guys
Im new here so sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.
Back in February i decided to finally get myself a Landrover. I had always wanted one and after 4 years of normal cars (From a mk2 fiesta to a 2007 3.0 CDTI V6 Vectra) and major bad luck i decided it was time for a well deserved pick me up.
I had found a Discovery 300tdi in a local dealer and i bagged it for £750!!, of course i late found out why it was such a good price. Now I'm not a complete novice on Landrovers, my granddad has had two Disco 300TDI's and a TD5 (that lasted two weeks, he hated it). plus i have a friend who own 7 land rovers including series 3's, a 2A, 101 and Defender 110. and another friend who had a series 3 FFR (recently bought a p38). and I've had the pleasure of helping with all sorts of jobs in them all.
However..........my very own disco is a disaster. As soon as i bought it, i found the radiator had NO fins and the heater matrix was dead, and then had to get the head gasket done. After a new rad and head gasket work, i have been everywhere in it, pulled many cars out of the snow and rescued my friends p38 from a field and pulled another friend in is freelander through countless green lanes.
However, all this time ive been loosing water and no idea where from. Last week i pulled into work and found all the water poring out the bottom of the engine. I lifted the bonnet and it took all of 1 minuet to see my p gasket was in much need of replacing, as it looked like niagra falls under there.
Yesterday i undertook this job, didn't take as long as i though either. However, the temperature gauge is shooting up and down like a yoyo (and im talking about right up to the H and above, then down the half way). and the top radiator pipe (from Rad to Thermostat) is pushing small amounts of water out (At pressure). I noticed a crack in the end of this pipe and have ordered a new one, but i doubt this is cause of the tempreture issue.
Anyone got any ideas?
Apolligies for the novel, but trust me, this is only the start of a very long list of problems
