Hi all,

I'm relatively new to defender wiring having only recently got to grips with series 3 wiring (substantially less of it and easier!), but I have a very strange fault with my defender hazards and indicators.

Right. My indicators work fine, but hazards don't.
Swapped hazard switch for second hand one, now hazards work, indicators don't.
(Consider the probability that both switches have opposite faults so buy a new switch.) - Which again allows the hazards to work, but not indicators.
This suggests both circuits from the multipin work, so I am now stumped.

Anyone had this or have any suggestions?

Thank you!

Just to clarify - as far as I'm aware I don't think I'm the timewaster that didn't check the dodgy connections! These are consistent occurrances with the same problems on the same switches!

Do you have another indicator stalk that you could try?

Also confirm which model it is - presumably you've WD40d the connections?

Is the flasher relay ok?

The indicator stalk works fine with one of the switches, so I was working on the principle that that end of things was okay particularly as it works faultlessly (not intermittent) - similarly the hazard lights work faultlessly with the other two switches, and no matter how many times i try and fiddle the connections the same switches give the same results EVERY time - which indicates to me that it shouldn't be connection issues due to the consistency?

Any other electrical issues?

Is the relay ok?

Is the hazard switch a standard model?

There is a feed from the stalk to the hazard (or visa versa) - have you messed with any other wiring?

I changed the bulkhead two months ago, but have no other electrical issues. The hazard switch is britpart and the other two factory fit. I will have a look at the feed from the stalk tomorrow, but am still at a loss as to why it only occurs with a change of switch, I would have expected any unusual wiring or knackered relays to be intermittent? Tell me if you think I'm being daft - as I said I'm quite new to this!

It's a 90 county 1990, but has been fitted some years ago with a 300tdi...what's the best way to check the relay?

Just spent the morning trying things - fixed it! On testing the feed from the multipin, i found that the ignition 12v was not supplying, just the permanent live. Which still didn't answer the fact that both circuits worked fine, just with different switches.

I remember a mate telling me his indicators didn't need the ignition, so wondered if the difference was the age of the switch, with the two newer switches needing the ignition feed. So just tapped the ignition wire off the permanent live as I didn't want to start finding out why the ignition feed wasn't working!

Thank you so much for your help though, it's very much appreciated!

Great news - keep an eye on the battery as that loose feed may drain it.

Try to take pics in the future to help others.

Sorry about that other post - I will take pictures in the future, again thanks for your help!
