Dont use underseal terrible stuff, you want a decent chassis wax, Buzzweld/Bilt Hamber that sort of thing, have read a few bits on Lanoguard might be worth a look?
Do not use waxoyl as its crap.
Do you need to protect the chassis out there?
Did I mention waxoyl is crap!

Thanks, I've heard a bit about Lanoguard, might be worth a look. In the old days we used to coat the underneath with old engine oil, but I'm guessing that's illegal nowadays. The car's been out in Spain for years and is really good underneath. I figured it would be a good idea to protect it from winter salt etc now I'm back in the UK.

I applied Lanoguard to my 90 in the Summer so easy to apply
far so good but will see how it lasts after winter

I need to treat my chassis as its an old one and want to preserve it the best I can whilst being able to "monitor" it's state. I don't want to use one of the waxes as I don't want to mask issues before they become too bad to address. Please keep us updated on your thoughts about it as I see posts like your where people say they are pleased with how good it was to apply, but yet to see posts on longevity and how well it works.

Do you use lanoguard inside the chassis or something else?

I find waxoyl underseal works well but it is hugely messy once applied and gets everywhere if you have to work on the vehicle afterwards.

Ah I just saw Ibiza and thought why worry? as back in UK you had better start worrying, Omicron/Boris and then your chassis!

As has already been said waxing the inside is the most important as they rot from the inside out. For the surface you can basically use any chassis paint.

...so, how would anyone treat the underside of a thirty-something specimen such as this?

Steam clean/Wash and degrease, wire brush etc, welding if needed, 2 coats of rust converter, 2 coats of chassis paint then rustproofing - wax/oil/sheep juice of your choice. Leave minor oil leaks, it all helps

Nice thread revival BTW, pop over to introduce yourself, we like pics (the landy, not you 😉)
