bought my landy yesterday, its loosing all of its cooling water on 10 miles drives. called up a local mechanic he has said if both fans are not working IE one is not working it bleeds steam and water automatically. there is a collection of water directly behind the engine in the centre the fans also go bannanas when you turn the motor off

it has got a rock slider on it which brings me to my other bit left side suspension has a big knock and the orange decent light is stuck on and there is a small crack on the lower left side of the windscreen with the rock slider is there a chance its had a big ass clump and it has screwed the sensor and suspension? im waiting for a bigger trolly jack to be delivered to look under it im not used to the lay out of a landy yet wanna know if I should just buy the part so I have it ready or if its an easy fix

car has been sitting for 2 months it was driven for a week but before that sat for 4 months this is before I bought it last night

Hi @DALE CARROLL

Might I suggest that you provide your vehicle info, inc engine and year.

Plus, you may get more response to your questions in the correct section for the particular vehicle type rather than as a project build.

Cheers

If you don't know your way around a K series engine. Then I would suggest you find someone who has a better understanding to take a look.
If it's loosing it's coolant, there's obviously a problem with it. It's not likely to be the fans, as those seldom come on in winter. The K series engine is known to suffer from head gasket problems. So you need to find someone who will diagnose what is wrong with it.

What makes you think that the suspension is damaged?
Suspension damage won't put the HDC light on, without other lights being on too

hey guys have a water leak directly behind the engine on the bottom its a puddle cant drive the car more than 10 miles as it empties. it has a mud slider on but I cant work out where the water is coming from. called a mechanic who said it could be a fan isn't working and it realises steam and water but would it do that such short distance?

it also has the decent light on and a knock in the suspension im wondering even with the rock slider could the suspension be mallard? had a crack on windscreen same side guessing its had a wack I only bought it yesterday my first landy will be jacking I up Monday but if I need sensors rather buy now in time for jacking it up

it has an big knock on that side we rocked it and its clunking fairly bad also same side bottom left of windscreen is cracked that's another thing I thought might of been done by it. the water coming out is straight coolent it had a full engine rebuild and new system a year ago done by landrover in Guilford I bloody hope it isn't head gasket only owned car for 21 hours lol

If the suspension is damaged enough to crack the windscreen. The car should be scrapped as the body would be bent.

A knock when rocked could be the anti roll bar drop links.
Where's the water coming from? If it's coming straight out, you can surely see the leak?

You sure its not an air con puddle?

Everything on a Land Rover is expensive if you have no money. You will need to get under it and have a prober look before buying loads of parts you might not need. Personally I would not have bought the car. Can you take it back and get a refund?

The thermostat is sealed with a rubber O ring, so leaking is possible. The IRD cooler pipes can also leak and are it the back of the engine.
Don't drive a K series without the correct level of coolant in the engine. It won't tolerate low coolant and causes irreparable damage to the engine.
