I need to fit Two Tyres on my freelander 1800 but have been advised to only to fit in sets of Four or this could effect gearbox is this True

Pretty much. All the tyres need to possess the same circumference or you will mangle the VCU.

Yes and no.

I mean, if the fronts are worn and rears aren't, they don't match 100% anyhow. And those that replace all 4 at once likely encounter this.
