Got a badly warn rear on range, but rest ok.

I know on the freelander we always put news on rear and move warn tyres forwards and so far has protected the vcu.

I know the range is a diff system, would it be ok to replace the two rears and leave the fronts. Seems a shame to replace all four when only two are really needed.

Got toyo proxies on at moment but I wanted to replace with kuhmo as they've been fantastic in all weathers in the freelander.
 
Always better to change all 4 on a 4 x 4. Nexen are good, very quiet on the road and excellent grip. Contact wil2813 on here.
 
On the old series 2A, and the P38, contrary to what some people on this forum say, I have always found Pirelli Scorpion to be good, even in the mud. It is obviously best to renew all four but I have found that it is usually the fronts which wear more. (perhaps I tend to corner too fast...) Anyway I don't mix makes and then put the new ones on the front. I would rather deal with a back end skid than a front one. But don't get cheap tyres, they just don't last as long.

A lot of the lower price tyres are better on all counts than the big name brands, just look at the EU comparison figures.
 
OK fair enough, I haven't looked at the EU figures, I was just going by experience. Had some real crap tyres once for the old Landy, lasted barely 18 months. Something like 'Toro' I think they were. Half the price, third of the wear.
 
I put cheap Nexen Roadian HP's on the back of mine shortly after getting it.
20" tyres aren't cheap! They were only £100 each fitted, a lot cheaper than anything else.
Really pleased and highly recommend. As Data says, quiet, good grip on/off road and have done over 7k miles and it's hardly touched the tread :)

And me i got Nexen on all 4 corners and i think they are ace.:)
 
i'm glad i came across this thread as i've just purchased some rr sport wheels so need tyres and was thinking about the nexan or grabber gt, think i'll go with the nexan
 
Had Nexens on my L322 for 3 years, they were pretty good all rounders to be honest.

now gone to Pirelli Scorpion Zero's. find them better overall, last longer and better grip in the wet.
 
I have barum tyres, they are made by continental and have a good number of ridges for mud and snow. Sort of middle price range and so far doing a sterling job.

i got 4 brand new off egay for about £600 and then got my local tyre place to fit and balance which was another £40, great tyres so far though
 
personally I run scorpion zeros nothing else,theres nothing wrong with budget brands as they have improved a lot over the years,ive stocked/sold/fitted budgets with better ratings/results than top brands with excellent customer satisfaction feedback ,best to check labelling for noise/wet grip/fuel for exactly what you need them for. for some strange reason anyone with a landrover wants a bfg or a grabber but I ask again what exactly do you want the tyre to do & for what purpose ?& most cannot answer as they only use it for shopping/school runs etc so whats the point ?, every tyre has known faults with age & wear this includes top brands.most tyre wear is faults with suspension/ steering so problems must be sorted first or your wasting your money.& finally they are all scrap when a nail/screw gets in the sidewall/shoulder:eek:

ps ellis a tip get some nitrogen in them zeros ;) you will like:biggrin1:

As far as I'm concerned, on the P38 the Nexen Rodians are brilliant. Incredibly quiet and the handling is much better than the Wranglers I had before, I believe due to the more flexible sidewall, never had a real problem with the P38 tramlining although it did move a bit, but there is no trace of tramlining on the Nexens, ride is more supple to and as a bonus there is a small improvement in fuel consumption.
 
The reason i ended up with the scorpion was i wanted a tyre that was good on the road as thats most of my miles but with a bit of off road capability if i do venture onto a bit of mud or snow. also i think the 20" instead of 22 give a good ride on road with still a bit of give for off road.
i am sure there are many lesser priced tyres that are just as good

On my 2nd set of nexens first set did about 30k and were still about 4 mm but changed all 4 as don't like running down to the limit , never had any problems , also the LR dealer near me had them on an offer as a budget tyre
