Hi all, I need some new front tyres for the D2 it's got General Grabber AT's 255/ 55 -18 109H all round at the moment but searching General Tyres website says there's no tyres available so does that mean they've stopped making that size ?
If so are there some equivalent tyres anyone can recommend please ? I don't do any off roading but do live in the sticks so I don't want road only tyres, many thanks in advance.

Hi Stan thanks for that. As I really only need two new tyres do you think they will be ok to run with the Gen G AT's, if so do I fit the new tyres on the rear ?
In a two wheel drive car the recommendation is always, "to the front" in a 4 wheel drive car, although all wheels do the driving, the front two will still do most of the braking, so I would go with putting the new ones on the front again.
I don't see why they should run any worse with the other two general grabbers.
If you start to notice horrendous oversteer, then you might want to change them over, as modern thinking is that moderate understeer is better for the average driver than oversteer, But with ABS, Traction control etc, I bet it won't matter a jot.

Have a look for the GG AT3. Got them on mine and have the snow symbel on
Griff
Yeah I went for a pair of AT3's in the end, £125 a piece instead of £180 for the Goodrich then took the loose wheels for them to be fitted & balanced at £20 quid each.

Goodrich All Terrains. Bit pricier but you can trust them. ;)
Hi Stan, I went for the GGAT3's in the end as they were £55 cheaper each. As I still have the rear chassis quarter to get sorted. I'm trying to keep the financial adviser sweet:rolleyes:.
Thanks for the advice all the same.
How's your back doing ?

Good for you.
I have nothing against GGs I have them on my D1 300tdi and they are fine. Though a bit old now!
As for the back, well, I wish the chiro had been a big strong bloke and a bit more old school, rather than a wimmins who did everything by the book, and used the little tool thing instead of her hands and arms.
But I'm going back to her next week and hoping it'll get a bit better.
At least I am off the morphine, and can sleep provided I dose myself up with paracetamol and nurofen.
I am just plugging away and not letting it stop me doing things. If I ignore it and concentrate I don't feel it so much.
Getting old. not to be recommended
Got the rear end of my chassis sorted a couple of years ago, not replaced as it wasn't too bad, just properly cut away and plated.
I'm saving up to get the gearbox leak sorted when I get back. LRs don't you just love em?!

Yep just one thing after another ;).
Have you tried a good sports massage person ? When I had sciatica in the mid 90s I did all the usual stuff via the NHS (like you say all namby pamby stuff even back then) but to no avail then a distance runner mate sent me to a sports masseur, Aussie geezer with the grip of a bison, talk about hands on the pain was almost unbearable but when I walked out 1/2 later it was like I weighed nothing so being a masochist every time I felt a twinge I went back & after about 6 sessions I was cured:) like they say no pain no gain so as long as it doesn't inflict more damage could be worth a try.

As you say, in desperation everything is worth a go. But the 90s is an age away. Back then all Chiros did it with their hands. Now officially there are things they are only allowed to do with a little machine/tool-type thing in order to not do any damage.
Unfortunately my guy was older than me and went and retired. He had been a lecturer at the international college of Chiropractic, so really knew his stuff, plus I'd been his kid's teacher which does make a tiny bit of difference. But no one else I know has ever used part of the bench as a fulcrum to really apply pressure when cricking my neck back into place.
But when I get back to blighty I'll have a go with a bloke a bloke I know recommended. He sounds a bit off the wall but really good. The mate is more of an independent Landy guy as well so deffo to be trusted.;):)
so cheers for the advice!:):):)

Never heard of a chiro not using manual manipulation!

They do mostly use manual stuff, but there are times when they frig about with a silly little tool that applies a measured amount of pressure to a point on the back rather than just using their hands. I have met both types of Chiro. Perhaps I should just walk in and ask if they use it or not?
But here in France she is the only one for miles around.

I call bollix :D

Agreed if rwd but if fwd then rear - if that steps out on you it will be hello hedge.
Thought it important to point this out.
No mate, you are right and I am wrong, should have said always the rear, even if front wheel drive only.
My bad and I stand corrected.
Mind must have jumped a cog there somehow.:(:(:(
