Hi,

Well I managed 240 miles in 5.5 hours in my newly aquired series 2a with no problems (23mpg of petrol and 1 gallon of oil).

There are a couple of points I would like some advice on:

1. what tyre pressures do you use for standard road tyres, the steering is vey heavy despite being professionaly overhauled mine are at 30 psi.

2. Should there be a spring to stop you accidently getting reverse instead of 1st if so where is it?

appart from the above it,s great fun, the oil all came out of the cam cover and front oil seal, it turns out the breather cap was completely blocked, so hopefully replacing that will stem the worst of the flow.
 
23 mpg at an average of 43 mph, I'm impressed.

What tyres are you running? 25-30 seems reasonable, when I was running 205 radials I would put them up to 35 fr long motorway journeys.

Lots of things can make the steering heavy, if you are used to modern cars with power steering, it will always feel heavy till you get used to it. You need to get someone familiar with Series motors to try it.

There is a spring, and the stop is adjustable, it's at the base of the gearlever, you need to take the transmission tunnel off to get at it. Buying a workshop manual must be a high priority.
 
The day I start dreaming of 23mpg rather than big wabs & fit burdz jest shoot me..............er, but I know wot yer mean. ;)

I have workshop manual on the way, with tyres pumped up to 40psi it seems much better, the tyres are well worn Michelin 205 16 M&S with almost a car tread pattern, which look wide for the standard rims anyway, so I think this may be a significant factor.
Gearbox sounds simmple, just need to get the transmission tunnel screws undone, unfortunatelly they look like the only ones which are all there and actually done up!

ffs 40psi.; yer should be bouncing down the road on them , unless yer orf road inwhich case yule get stuck
