What device do you have to measure tyre pressure? I like to set my tyres perfectly but can't find a tyre measuring thing that's accurate.

I have one of these but it's not very accurate due to the small pitch on the display:

I also have one of these but find the values vary a bit depending on the voltage of the battery inside. Putting a new battery in isn't always betterer as the values can still be out. It's as if the battery voltage is used as a reference as opposed to having a chip inside which creates it's own reference voltage:

All measurements are a version of the truth and when made by a human verry subjective. When your measuring the pressures with gauges of the quality like you have they are all going to give readings that are slightly off. What you might hope to achive is good Precision (getting it wrong by the same amount each time) if you want accuracy then as far as im aware the air line at your local petrol station is required to be calibrated regularly and they are realy easy to use. If you are going down the OCD sun dont shine route then you could use a chalk test to establish your ideal pressure and calibrate your dial gauge to that.

Made subject to weights and measures legislation a few years back and a whole bunch got stung which is why most are coin operated now

Ive got an old halfords digital one....reads the same as the sainsburys free air machine..so that will do for me....

You defo have ocd mr hippo lol....I thought I was bad:)

You need one that measures the air temp going into the tyre:p

I have a couple of the digital ones but I also have a old one where you read the pressure of the scale that runs down the side I will find it out hopefully and post a picture .but at least Hippo you are looking after your tyres, and they will look after you.

Or if you want accuracy. ...fill them with nitrogen. :eek:

You do fill tyres with 78% Nitrogen, even if you use a foot pump!! ;)

I use a digital gauge. It's accurate to + or - 1 PSI which is good enough for me.

The problem I have is one gauge reads say 30psi and the other reads 26. If I try again 26 becomes 28 or drops to 20. The next day it will be back to 26. Freelander hasn't moved. Air temp is the same and am not going mad. Simply taking the measuring thing oft and putting it back gives a different reading. Up as well as down so it's not the bit of air that escapes when removing/applying the measuring thing. I thought it could be the values but this continued after getting rid of the grabbers. They fitted new values. If I set them I pump them up a bit higher than required then let some air out a bit at a time. I think I set mine to 30spi but can't remember as it's late. I can easily get them to 30 +/- 0.1 without fuss. But re-measuring the same tyre over and over again gives so many readings of +2 -4 -2 + 1... it's annoying. My tyres had nitrogen put in them when they were fitted. More than the % in air. It keeps them cool or so they say.

i've got a halfords digital ( 0.5 psi increments )
there's a digital readout on my michellin electric air pump
a dial type gauge on my halfords foot pump
and i've a slider type gauge somewhere

i don't use service station pumps

i usually check pressure in the morning .. before the sun hits my side of the street
i've a ir.digital temp device ..
bought to keep a check on the vcu temps after the 'turnip' test was mentioned
i use that to check tyre temps before checking tyre pressure
from what i've read on the www. .. pressure changes at 1psi for every 10F ( 5.556C )

~~~~~~~~~~~~
the pireli scorpions i had on would loose about 1psi per fortnight
and for some reason the offside front would always loose more
( when i bought the hippo it had michellin synchrones fitted
( and the offside front was @ 43psi .. the others were 30 psi
( figured the prev. owner had a bit of trouble maybe
the michellin latitutes on now .. don't seem to loose pressure at all
( must loose some .. but gauge readouts have been steady at a once per fortnight check )
scorps and latitudes were fitted by the same national outfit
They tend to leak around the rim...corrosion etc....they should clean the rims properly before fitting the new tyres
My electronic gauge reads the same pressure every time I connect it to the same tyre. This would make every pressure taken as valid. If it were to display random pressures, it would be of little use.
There are a lot of OCD people round here.
( not that I check my water level every day) :eek:
MOST "normal" people are not on ANY of these forums. They know how to put gas in their cars, and not much else. They drive on the tires until they go bald, and then they replace them.
ALL posters on this (and other car/motorcycle/airplane/watch collector forums) ARE OCD to some level. Some are "mild" cases, and some are severe!
Thanks to all "normal" people, there are so many ruined machines out there, and MANY Hippos! There is a fine line between mild and severe OCD case.
