My 225/55/17 Uniroyal rain sports are nice and quiet
My 195/80/15 hankook A/T's are noise as fook.
I'll have to turn the radio up more for winter

My new BFG's are noisier than my old **** tyres but I don't mind, it's just a low howl which is loudest at about 35mph.

The Insa Turbo's on my Disco are shockingly loud. But they do there job and I'm happy to put up with the noise.

Once upon a time ........ when I was young, stupid, and poor ...... I drove a 'Tour of Europe' - from Scotland all the way to the South of France and then Italy on 'knobblies' in the summer!

Terrible racket - but not so noisy on the way back as they were slowly converting themselves to slicks. :(

Note - I described it as a time when I was 'young, stupid, and poor' - only one of those adjectives need to be changed to bring the description up to date.

Singvogel.

Old hippies never die - they just buy LandRovers. (Confucius, 520BC)

Just put two on my gaylander today.. 3 days before the deadline here in Sweden, woulda liked studded, but not legal in UK, and if you think Hankooks are noisy... listen to the studded!

mi insa turbo dakar's are noisy... the new more than the worn. Just need to fit a stereo and drown it out with that.

Whilst you're waiting for your stereo could I convince you to borrow my mother-in-law? Trust me, you won't hear your tyres.

I got rid of my grabbers AT2's partly due to noise. It's down to the tread pattern. The more radial patterns produce less noise, betterer steering, betterer mpg... the list goes on.

I just want to add that at 60mph+ I can't hear my BFG's at all. Like I said they are loudest at 30 :), but not that loud really.

Just bought a set of these for the winter. At £70 a corner they look like really good value. I ummed and arred for ages though. Whether or not they'll be noisy I'll try to remember to report back on.

**DIGGING UP THIS POST**

The tyres on my Freelander are those Hankook 195/80/15 , just like Rhodie said were 'noisy as fook'.

I bought my Freelander 2 months ago, and was worried about the noise. Had bearings/diff checked out, and they're fine. Could it really just be tyre noise? It kicks in about 30mph, like a humming, rumbling etc.. Does my bleeding head in though

I have 235/?/18 Hankooks on mine, much louder than the engine.

That reminds me - time to order some winters...

Thanks Bukko. Is it that kind of humming noise? Like a bearing?

No, difficult to explain, just a kind of "roady" noise...

Rumbly humming usually is tyre related though, mine do that if they need some air.
