After a run my 1986 3.5 v8 90 ( defender ) tends to drip some petrol onto the ground. It is coming out of the carb vent pipes. These are SOLEX carbs and I have topped up the chambers with engine oil.
My V8 runs very well but the petrol drips are a bit of a fire hazzard.
Does anyone know the cause of this?
Many thanks.

Float chambers, check the float hights and make sure the float valve inlet seats are in good condition.

As above, but also check that the floats aren't punctured.

A little shake will reveal whether or not any fuel has found its way inside them. (causing the height to be lower).

Thanks crazydave and waldershelf for your suggestions. Sounds like I have to take the carbs apart then to check the floats and valve. I think I'd better find a Haynes manual as I've not done that before.
