hello i have a 97 300tdi disco and it won't start all of a sudden. it turns over but doesn't fire. there is diesel getting to the pump but no further, i tow started it yesterday and eventually it started after the glow plug light came on. now there is no glow plug light and it just turns over. any ideas? cheers.

Sounds like an earthing or other wiring/electrical problem. I'd start by checking fuses and all associated wiring.

any history we should know? like you running veg, did it just happen in this cold weather?

did it run fine yesterday after you got it started? If so, then prolly not fuel related.

some thoughts..

If it all ran fine yesterday, but is hard to start, then i'd look at the glowplug system.

check all fuses.

check ignition switch is working properly

check glow relay is working

check glows are working.

do fuses first, check connections are clean, then glows

Even with glows out it should still fire eventually.

Id be cracking an injector and seeing if there is fuel

If he tow started it and it ran yesterday, I'd have thought it would have bled it all.

no fuel at injectors, been running fine all year never missed a beat. no glow plug light on when started towing yesterday then it came on and fired up straight away. but i assumed it would start without glow plugs anyway? the way the light came on and it fired while being towed made me think it could be electrical? like stop solenoid or something? i hate electrickery!

checked fuses all seem to be in order, just started snowing not keen to be getting freezing but keen to be driving around boo!!

how could i check the immobiliser? thinking about it the little red dash light has been flashing randomly for a few weeks now i totally forgot.

I'm fairly sure there's threads on here about 300tdi immobilisers and the associated issues.

I'm sorry to be so vague but I only know TD5 immobiliser and they work the same way but are slightly different beasts.

However if the red LED is flashing the immobilser is armed and the engine wont start or will cut out if the engine was running.

It'll be a problem with the wiring inside the immobilser itself (dry joints normally)which as I recall is accessable abeit tricky to get to. Again there's a wealth of info out there.

If you dont already have a manual you might want to download the RAVE manual.

I'm going with glowplugs bust and veg wont light up as concentration is too high, had this on mine last year

Just a idea but if you run a wire from the bat to the fuel shutoff on the back of the pump and see if it starts then it will rule that out as you may have a broken wire on that
