Just brought the missus a little run around so i now have a free reign over the Disco
Any advice on upgrading the Disco to use it as a shooting vehicle, green lane vehicle and still legal on the road etc
I don’t just want to throw on a snorkel and be done with it i want it to last and not break in half

A decent set of tyres is about all you need unless you want to do serious off roading.

we've got 2 disco's one with a lift, mud tyres and snorkel, and one standard with all terrain tyres that i make the concession of removing the side steps from before we go laning.. both are road legal and both do amazing things off road. i've yet to see anyone 'snap one in half'
don't under estimate the mighty land rover!:D

for green laning keep it as standard looking as possable, tyres AT's will do to a point, recovery points front and rear, some decent ropes and strops, tirfor type winch if you cannot stretch to an electric one. There is no need for lifts or over large tyres for green laning

Diff guards/steering guard?

diff gaurds if you're gonna take em off and clean underneath after every laning trip. If yer not prepared to keep whipping em on and off then don't fit em. Mud trapped behind them will rot away your diff pans.

as a shooting car and if your just going up tracks to drives etc you dont need anything.. maybe better tyres but to be honest road tyres will get you where you want probably

For the sort of work you describe all I would advise is a set of General Grabber AT² tyres - good onroad, good offroad.

Thanks for the advice guys

I have put BFG Muds on it and it made the world of difference for every aspect of the shooting. (And the SNOW)
Havent had the opertunity to do any green laneing so far but lamping and wet sticky fields have been a breeze.
I have had some issues to adress with the Disco (fan belt tensioner squeak and Rear windows not working, along with door locks lowering themselves) typical to get all the common faults at once!!
Working my way through and learning loads
Cheers

My bog standard (apart from 235/70/16 MT's steering guards and a snorkel) 200tdi disco does very well on greenlanes.

It would depend on what you want to do as far as green lanes go if you want to do some light laning with few inches of mud the standard maybe change the tyres, and a steering guard, recovery points front and rear.

If you want to do a bit more then the easy stuf on the lanes as our group do, you will need to start to do a bit more to up grading the disco, but a fair few guys just have the standard with better tyres, you will be very supprised what a disco can do. just dont go of road with out some other guys.

I use my disco for shooting too. I have 4 spots on the roof and 2 in the A bar on the front which make lamping without a lamp a breeze! I take the rear sunroof out, wrap a piece of foam pipe lagging around and hey presto, a gun turret! Ideal for a rifle or shotgun. I have put Kumho kl71 tyres on too which i rate as good, if not better than bfg mud tyres but at a cheaper price. I also put a snorkel on jus for piece of mind in the floods!!

This happened to us lamping one night when the only mod i had done was a snorkel. We then had a 4 mile walk home with no torch! Then back the next day in my dads defender to pull her out!
