Hi,
I've seen a few of these online, all make big claims.
Surprisingly few posts on here about them though.
Does anyone have any good or bad experiences to share?

The ones I'm looking at are:
- Prodiesel chip (£125)
- TDi Tuning CRTD4 (£379.99)
- ChipExpress (£395.00)

Thanks

There are mixed views on these amongst members.

Personally I've seen/driven a D4 that has been to Alive Tunning in Grimbsby I think. It was mildley tuned and on the motorway tour we did (north to south) 600 miles in one day it returned 38mpg with steady 70/80mph most of the way.

Well worth it if your keeping it.

I'm against those power boxes no matter the make, they are only tricking the injection management IMO.... better find a tuner with good reputation and get the ECU remapped

im not against the power box ..I geuss it all depends how deep your pockets and what power gains you want
on the flip side with a power box or a piggy back ecu this can be easily removed when trying to diagnose faults or selling the vehicle
you can do an expensive remap but notice no difference due to the stock intercooler exhaust system etc same applies with the any power box or DP chip

you wont see the full potential out of both unless you modified other things

if you want cheep power gains do a duel fuel system

i've had the synergy boxes fitted and found the results were very good , but that was in a td4

however i know it's always better to ensure the engine is in good condition first otherwise any tuning box, chip can really cause all told problems

see the synergy for the d 3 are around the £200 range and as said can be removed if problems arise

when u see adverts for every single tuning device they always advise of mpg saving

mines the eu2 engine and i think the d4 has a eu4 engine which i believe is a lot harder to tune

have been tempted by fitting a synergy box again but wish to blank the egr valves off first

don't know how true it is, that if u get ur landy chipped and do a hard reset or do a flash ecu update u can loose the tuning remap

Commonrail engines are reacting differently to those boxes... i strongly recommend to not fit such thing on a EUI/PD engine(like the Td5 is)... i've had one on mine long time ago when i didnt know too much about Td5s(it was an expensive one from a reliable company)... after about 1 year of usage i had to replace the injectors and the head cos i've got a crack in it so i removed it... I refitted it just for a short test out of curiosity with a standard(untuned) ECU a while ago, the engine ran well and good throtle response, no excessive smoke but the EGT was up in the sky(up to 900 uphill)... i rest my case

thks really good to know

when i first had my disco , going down the motorway , up a hill and lost a lot of power, nursed it home and found the map sensor was blocked solid , cleaned it out and resolved the issues

bought the egr blank kit that i've still got to fit

believe that 28 mpg round town and 38 mpg is about right from other reports

however mine has now dropped to around 10mpg around town , no faults on the iid reader ,

assume the egr needs the blank to be done , as we all know how coked up they can become

don't know what u think of these injector readings plse

think personally i need to get it on the motorway for a long run , getting everything up to temperature , as the short 5 mile town runs can't be much good

i've got the tdv6 2.7 litre engine

think if i got 25mpg round town and 35mpg on a run would be happy

thks for the heads up ref the tuning box, think i will leave it, considering this engine is so different compared to the td4 and understand u know u what's what regarding engines etc

have had the engine fully serviced, am getting all the timing belts etc replaced in the new year

will then strip and check all my brakes, all the wheels are cool as i first thought about them binding

it will reverse easily on rickover so don't think anything is holding the disco back

also been messing around with my suspension , think i need to recalibrate it,

three pics, of the suspension heights are

access
normal
off road

think the access should be minus 50mm normal zero and off road plus 50mm but got to check the figures

really appreciate the heads up and many thks

Hey Gary,
Many members who have done some EGR blanking recommend giving the intercooler a wash out, and in the case of a really mucky engine, washing out the inlet manifolds.
@gstuart

After owning a couple of D3, autos, around town driving was approx 19-20 per gallon, and motorway at 70 approx 27, thats the 2.7 TDV6 HSE

Unfortunately i dont know much about the tdv6 engine, i've got carried away and spoke about the Td5 while the post is not about that... as the tdv6 is commonrail it might react better to the tuning box but a EGT gauge would be a good move anyway cos it can show a management issue if it starts rising

nice one, thks for that

did surprise me it dropping to 10mpg around town

wonder if the maf sensor is out , no faults being shown though

got to work out which one is my intercooler first, as there's a lot more rads than my last landy , lol

noticed a small leak on my automatic gearbox intercooler the other day , was leaking on the hose and was just a question of doing the jubilee clip up

sorry for the daft question which intercooler rad am in looking for please

know i took off my inlet manifold before, it that was on a td4 , but never worked on a V6 before

of course know there will be two this time, lol

got the egr blank kit, but got to also remove the butterfly valves , bit nervous if i'm honest

only one way to find out, would just take my time

most appreciated :D:D

would be very happy with that mpg,

seen quite a few reporting 38 mpg on a run with the cruise control on, set at 70mph but very optimistic at those figures

'Seasy, Just take a pipe off one at a time, if oil comes out, that ain't it. If water comes out, that ain't it either. If nothing comes out, it's either the intercooler or you've just run out of coolant! :D

the govt fuel figures with manual box
Government official fuel economy figures:
Urban: 24.5 MPG
Extra Urban: 34.5 MPG
Combined: 30.0 MPG

thks

so do u think a synergy box would be good then for mine

sorry whats a EGT gauge plse

understand the tdv6 is a Citroen lion engine

synergy comes with a switch that i can change from power or economy ,

EGT: Exhaust Gas Temperature. Over-fuelling will cause the exhaust to over-heat. That could cause all sorts of problems in and around the turbo(s).

thks ,

its making me nervous with even the thought of getting those problem

thks mate

it's all been serviced so hopefully will be easier to find , with everything topped up, lol

if i look in the manual is it called the turbo intercooler

also reminds me , will have a look and make sure the actuator arm is moving on the turbo

been reading through the workshop manual bit by bit , to understand the engine more

is this the intercooler ur talking about plse

plus wonder as it's been fully serviced , if the air filter has affected it in any way and maybe replacing it with a K & N
