I drove on the road with my transfer gear in the diff lock position,
Now if I drive slowly while turning a corner it feels like I'm wheel spinning slightly, and if I'm parking it feels like I'm driving with the handbrake on.
I thought that the transmition might be wound up, so I've driven forward and reverse several times and that seems to work for a while, but it seems to come back after a short time, at no time has the transmition warning light come on.

Anyone with any ideas, or should I take it to the garage

jack up one wheel (wheels chocked, handbrake off), does it spin? if so, its not yer difflock, if it doesnt, its stuck in difflock.
check all yer linkages, lube em up, if theres lots of play, it may not have come out of lock, IIRC you can get hold of the linkage as it comes out the box and use it "manually"
did the light come on when you had it in lock? if not, id suspect the switch and/or lamp is goosed/
