Hi ive got a range rover bobtail 200tdi whilst out on a run today the transmission temp warning light came on, on the dash, all the fluids are fine. I have read that the transmission temp sensor is a common fault but for the life of me i cant locate it so if someone can point me in the right direction i would be very grateful indeed.

Cheers Bazza

As far as i know theres only a transmission temp sensor fitted to automatics, maybe the lever is lifting slightly and putting the light on but not enough to put the parking brake on.

no the parking brake goes on and off as normal but the transmission temp warning light just stays on constantly, the light came on after a hour driving down the motorway and hasnt gone out since and its doing my head in.
Im at a total loss of what else to check or do ???

I see,on mine which is a 93 200tdi manual there is no handbrake warning light as such,it uses the transmission temp light as the handbrake light.are you saying yours has a separate handbrake light as well as a transmission temp light? has yours been converted from an auto to manaul?

yeah cheers for that about remove the bulb but it was put there for a reason and id feel much happier trying to find the source of the fault / problem and repair it thankyou mate.
Its just the small question of how to repair thats giving me the headache.

yeah i have both mate on mine not sure if it was converted before i owned it though im afraid, on the log book it states its a rangerover vogue tdi its got the lt77 gearbox and borgwarner transfer box.

Reading the owners manual the transmission temp sensor refers to automatic transmissions,it also says "the light will also illuminate when handbrake is not fully disengaged" which you can also rule out on yours as you've got a seperate light.I don't know what else to suggest as mines only got the 1 light

cheers buddy i appreciate your help very much as i dont have a owners manual to refer to, i guess i'll either have to live with it or dig deeper and see what i can find.
is there a owners manual i can download online somewhere ??

I'm not sure if theres one you can download tbh,I suppose one thing you could check would be to disconnect the small single wire switch on the bottom of the handbrake lever as this would rule out my handbrake theory if it has no effect.what you could also try is posting this problem in the rangerover section as a lot more people will see it there.

Cheers for all your help buddy with this problem, i tinkered with the handbrake today and the light now goes off with the handbrake light so i really appreciate the advise you gave me.
