Hi all.
Just found the cause of an annoying rattle when idling, the transmission heat shield mounting has corroded through and the heat shield is just laying on the exhaust. Would it be ok just to ditch the shield or, is it vital that its fitted?

Well it was fitted or a reason. Mine had come adrift so it was straight forward to have it re welded while I replaced the HG. If you don't want to remove the front pipe and reweled it you could try some large hose clamps at either end.
