I own a 1985 90 with a 2.5di transit engine (i can hear the 'tuts' and shaking of heads from hear!) but is it really that bad? iv turned the fuel pump up a bit, better air filter and exhaust and a litre of 2 stroke every time i fill up with fuel. yeah its a bit loud but iv heard worse tdi's, i can keep up with traffic ok tho i do need a head of steam on for some hills! i think it go's ok, am i the ony 1 who thinks its a good swap or should i hang my head in shame?:confused:

It will mean that your 90 is worth a bit less than the equivalents with pukka TDI power. Its only worth worrying about of you are selling it though.

Putting a Tranny engine in a series or a 90 is meant to be quite hard work. There is a thread on here that lists the extensive modifications required to engine and mounts to make them fit.

I have just read about the TD5 engine.

I is indeed wrong :eek::(

Ive been told by a couple of people that the TD5 is the ford engine that is a variant of the transit engine?

happy to be re-educated :D

I thought the TD5 had the "depressed" bonnet profile - same profile as my 300TDi; and that it was the later - Puma? - model with the bonnet bulge that had the transit engine

It's the 2.4 puma motor
2002-2006 had Land Rover's own Td5 engine (2.5 litre turbocharged diesel) - 122bhp/300Nm 2007 onwards has a 2.4 Ford derived "Puma" engine from the Ford Transit (sharing a few parts with Peugeot) 122bhp/370Nm
