I have inherited the below oil because I "work on vehicles and it was in the way". I usually run 80w-90 mineral oil in my diffs and transfer box ('89 110, Salisbury rear diff, lt230 transfer). Is this any use and can it be run in anything on my 110 or will it cause issues as it is a slightly thinner grade and is synthetic?

The problem with early synthetic oils was leaks with older type seals that broke down. But in more recent times makers say this has been sorted. Synthetic oils last longer before needing change. Paddocks sell it so check site for info.

Many thanks for that I did not realize paddocks sold it. Looking at their website they sell fully synthetic Millers 75w90 as suitable for all from series onwards so that sound like the synthetic part is ok, as is the cold weight of 75. So the real question is will it being 80 rather than 90 cause any issues in the transfer box?

Shouldn't be a problem as far as I can tell. Provided it's gear oil rather than, say, the MTF you put in the R380. It's just a very simple two speed gearbox, after all. I've had a variety of oils in mine over the years, from the grey sludge that was in when I bought it to the various 80 and 90 stuff I've had in there. Over 150,000 miles later there aren't any visual signs of wear on the gears.

Sorry to hijack this thread slightly. Draining the oils from a 1987 TD 90, which is a donor vehicle for my new project, I note that the transfer box was filled with ATF of some sort.
The fact that the LT77 runs on ATF anyway makes me think this might not be a disaster for the transfer box but I'm open to comments.

Better to recycle that start a new similar thread
