Hi,

I had my transfer box replaced today, from a 1.2 ratio to a 1.4 ratio. 300tdi manual. LT230 transfer box.

I've just noticed that it is leaking oil where the transfer box meets the gearbox - I'm thinking it's the input seal - thoughts? Would it leak like this if it was slightly over full?

Could be an input shaft seal but the forward intermediate shaft seal will also trail oil down that same area. Was it a new or reco'd transfer case, if it was supposed to be you would have grounds for a warranty re work. Slight oil overfill should not cause this, Is the transfer box vent/breather line clear and open right up into the engine bay, if it is restricted the box becomes pressurised and the hot oil is forced out through seals and gaskets.

It was reconditioned before the previous owner sold it to me - so it had been fitted, but is still in very good condition. I will check the intermediate shaft seal (I ordered a new one just in case).

It could be the breather actually - I have extended breathers but perhaps it was blocked on the transfer box end - thanks for the suggestion.
