It’s a 1995 disco 1 V8 3.9L

I was in a gravel road wanted to test my transfer case, high lock was fine, then moved to low lock, all went good, when I tried to shift it back to high the lever is freely moving back and forward it’s not engaging the gear…. But it can be move side by side to low lock and low unlock. But the gear lever is moving freely up and down positions without engaging the gear. Basically I am stuck on low position. I tried changing gears driving back and forward but no luck 🤔

What is the max speed I can drive in low unlock ?
 
There isn't a speed limit in unlocked low range.

If you slide underneath the trf box you will be able to feel the offending lever on the top of the trf box - kinda in the middle

The lever does a vertical up and down movement that you can move by hand. I cant remember which is which but if it's up then pull it down and vice versa

or enjoy the scenery at 40 kph

So it will not be required to remove the center console to access the gear leaver ?

there is no speed limit regulated but better not drive it much in low cos you'll ruin the box hence the recommendation in the owner's manual... low has it's clear purpose, it was not conceived for long road driving, the TB, gearbox and engine can all overheat on a long run

Got it. Current I am stuck in low range unable to change it to high… as the lever moving freely, more detail in my first post. Any easy fix for this. Appreciated….🙏

You will be moving the same "lever" that the hi/low inside the cabin is attached to/too if you get underneath the trf box

So not fixing anything just a temporary get home faster

Sierra is correct on the manual but as an aside i have done many many trips where I am in low range for 1000 kilo's plus with max speed's sometimes of 40 kph - in the 300 tdi that's very noisy though
 
Hi, is the Hi /Low lever still attached as I have had this problem the pin attaching the lever to the selector snapped, this allowed the lever to just float around I got under and looked around saw the problem , moved the selector using some mole grips , drove home , and replaced the pin a few days later not had a problem since but i do oil it now to stop it seizing and breaking again, I also put it in and out of low every few weeks to make sure it OK

To access the Hi-Lo lever and the selector, easily, yes. Just a case of doing the obvious then drilling through the pop rivets.
Unless you can easily access it from below and replace that pin.
When I had to do it, it was for the more common reason, that the diff lock position was inaccessible from the cab, i.e. the lever wouldn't move left.
In any case, if you are "going in there" it is a good idea so that you can clean up and lubricate the selector(s) for both hi-lo and diff lock.

The lever is moving freely up and down H and L range though gear is not engage. Current it is in position low.
