I'm hoping some of you might have an idea about why my L322's TPMS isn't calibrating tyre pressure properly.

After purchasing my '08 Vogue I noticed that the message "check all tyre pressures" was displaying intermittently along with the orange tyre pressure warning lamp. As it had winter tyres on it when I purchased it (requirement here in Germany) I thought maybe the TPMS still thought it had summer tyres on and needed to be recalibrated (I didn't know at the time that it calibrates itself while driving).

I took it to my local LR dealer to have a set of summer tyres (also new twenty inch wheels with TPMS sensors) put on and also told them about the warnings. After picking it up again the mechanic said the warning would disappear once the car had been driven for 10 minutes or so, after which time the TPMS will have calibrated the new pressures. However the warnings persisted so they took it back.

Later in the day the mechanic rang me up and asked if I knew whether all service actions/updates had been applied to the car. As it was a used car I couldn't tell him. They later told me that after checking the VIN there didn't seem to be any outstanding service actions on the car and didn't know why the TPMS isn't calibrating. They are now waiting for LR to get back to them.

Do any of you guys have an idea what the problem could be? I appreciate your reading this far and any help you can offer.

FWIW, my local stealer was sent some troubleshooting instructions and using those they started eliminating potential causes. In the end LR Germany connected with the car remotely and discovered there was a fault in the TPMS software. They fixed that and the tyre pressures then calibrated on the next test drive and the warning light and message no longer appear.

People have been driving around on pnuematic tyres for a very long time, checking the pressures from time to time. Which also gave you a chance to look and see if any undue wear was taking place. Why manufactures now consider that an automatic tyre pressure indicator system, that is just another thing to go wrong, is a good idea defeats me.

Drove to England to visit family and on exiting the Eurotunnel the CHECK ALL TYRE PRESSURES warning appeared again and remained, flashing slowly on and off.

Took it back to the stealer here in Germany and they began the whole trouble shooting process again. They replaced the antenna in the roof that receives the pressure signals from the wheels but that didn't change anything so they put the old one back in. A guy from LR visited the stealer to check it out and suggested the "control device" for the TPMS should be replaced to see if the fault lay there. Once that arrived they installed it and the problem vanished.

The unit is a small black box as shown in the picture and is located in the rear right side compartment in the boot, to the top right of the fuses. They checked it by reducing the pressure of one tyre greatly and it flagged up and disappeared again once it was pumped up again. So this little black box cost me 80 pounds but the labour took it up to 260. They replaced one TPMS valve because it was faulty but that was free due to it being less than a year old.

I'll do my nut if I see that warning any time soon...

Just another piece of useless over complication waiting to go wrong. An unreliable TPMS is worse than no TPMS.

Sadly all too true I got really sick of that warning light.
