Hello and sorry for the dumb question. I think the following is correct for a Disco 2015 TD6

Kerb weight: 2570
GVM: 3240
Payload: 670
GCM: 6740

I’m about to buy a boat (Whittley CR2600 OB) with a trailering weight of 3350 (fully loaded). It seems on my calc thats legal and I’d have a very solid payload for the vehicle on top of 800kg or so which I’d never really use.

Is that right?

Thank you!
Tim

Are you in the UK?

The Disco has a 3.5t (3500kg) tow rating. So as long as the trailer and whatever is on the trailer (aka the boat) weigh less than 3.5t, it should be fine. There will be a nose weight that is applied to the toe ball, which then counts as payload on the towing vehicle. I don't know what the Disco is rated at nose weight wise, I'd guess 150kg.

Not sure what GCM relates too, normally you'd have gross train weight or Maximum Allowed Mass.

Thank you yes the GCM (Gross Combination Mass) is another word for the GTW. I got a bit nervous looking at the article below which doesn’t touch on the Disco but which criticises a range of other “3.5t” towing vehicles as having no realistic way of towing that much weight given the loss of payload to maintain the GTW, but my calcs indicate it should be ok/great in the Disco which is awesome news 😂. I’m in Brisbane, Australia.

it sounds like my calcs are right and a 3350kg boat+trailer allows the full 670kg payload on the vehicle and if needed a further 150kg in the boat (if I really wanted to max it out which I’d avoid)?

As to the nose weight, the manual says 150kg is the assumed amount but it can be upped to 250kg by reducing the GVW by 100kg (and by a further 100kg in Australia if using the detachable trailer hitch receiver).
