Whats wrong with a lifting strap 4 ton rated with two d links :confused:

A 4 ton rating on a lifting strap is it's maximum weight for a "dead lift" not for the sort of stresses you get when towing like occassional snatching.

I just think lifting straps are for lifting and tow ropes are for....................:p

i have had a few straps from danmar and they are very good but the tow pole is adviseable if you deside to tow any 1 home as most people wont keep the rope tight and naker the rope up hence i have had a few from danmar and i would say a good pair of D links are beast as well

Think you will find that most Lifting Staps are rated at for example 3 ton, but will be tested to 9 ton from my memory mine have a tab on that gives that information, I brought mine from a local lifting company, asked their advice on wether a lifting stap will be suitable, their answer was yes.

The biggest problem I would say with Ropes and straps is the amount of mud and damage that they get from the misuse that we give them, how many do you see just curled up on the front or rear, never cleaned or inspected after use, and replaced when they need replacing.

Yeah i agree with that. Im replacing myn its done its duty now its being retired to lifting my mini engines out :)
 
only thing i would say is if you use a lifting strap for towing dont use it again for lifting... its likely to have been shock loaded and if it comes apart during a lift something or someone is likely to get broken
 
If you're recovering a 2ton vehicle that's well and truly stuck, there's going to be a lot of extra resistance. You could easily add the equivalent of the vehicle's own weight in resistance alone. On here, many advise getting a strap/rope that has a 10t rating.

If ropes or straps fail, the consequences can be lethal. So imo it's worth spending the extra so that you know exactly what you're getting.

Here's what I have:

PM642 Pro Comp Recovery Strap. 2in x 20foot. 20,000lb rating.

nearly right m8, factor of safety on a lifting sling is 7:1 so a 1 tonne sling will do 7 tonne. i use a 3tonne sling and have never had a problem but then again i don't do snatch recovery.
 
:doh: My feeling on lifting straps or some so called tow straps are widley known. Do a search!

Ah feck it save £10 and buy a strap when some coont jarrs your back, rips off your tow points and leaves you in tons of bog up toi your bonnet I'll be shouting Rope!
 
5 foot scaffold pole (or summat that will fit across yu disco/deepender) fit a tow hitch at each end bobs yo uncle. If yu fit an extra hole at one end, yu can remove the tow hitch and replace with a shackle:D.

Excellent idea, might have to look into that:)

Might need to tow a mates Merc Vito a short distance next week and dont fancy using a rope. Wont be able to make my own pole in time though.

Are there any retailers that specialise in tow poles, might get my mate to go halves with me £££.
 
tiz only a pole with 2 holes drilled in each end (or three at one end (one at right angles)) to suit the tow hitches - 10 mins at the mo - oh - and 5 mins to steal a scaff pole :eek:
 
I could probably manage that actually. Not sure where Id get a scaffold pole from though, might have to flag a scaffolding lorry down and then drop a fiver on the floor:D

Didn't not we where talking about recovery lol but good point made. Tbh I'd just strap the back end to a anchor point and drag him out with the good old warn ;-)

Yeah another great idea which I have got one made from some box section but I want a collapsible one two store behind the seats :)
