Hi all,

I was reversing a new boat onto my driveway (which involves a steepish slope) and noticed a very very strong burning smell whilst doing so, and at one point lots of revs and no movement.

I am ashamed to say i subsequently noticed i had the handbrake on, and were it not for the fact that the engine did not stall with high revs, no clutch depressed and handbrake on, might have thought that the smell was the handbrake. But i think maybe it was the clutch

I have a 2005 TD4 manual with 75k on the clock.

The clutch seems to engage quite close to the floor (or maybe i am imagining it). WHen i last had it serviced i asked them to check the clutch and they said it was ok but the master cylinder was leaky. They fixed this.

What do you think ? And if it is clutch slip, is it likely to suddenly fail or do i have time to get it fixed at leisure ?
