Morning all
I need a bit of help with my new to me Disco 4 (2010) which came fitted with a height adjustable towing bracket.
I have several trailers and some have towing eyes.
Embossed on the bracket is a warning not to use a towing jaw. Does anyone know the reason for this and if it can be altered to allow a jaw.

From memory, the tow bar assembly isn't designed for approved for the shock loads that any other type of attachment causes, other than the standard 50mm ball imposes.
 
Is there any way to beef up this bracket or is it a start again job ?
Changing the ring hitches on my trailers will cost a few quid and I like the security of the ring and pin.
I once had a trailer full of cows 'pop' off the towball when going down the road. Not a nice feeling watching it in the mirror I can tell you.
No harm done thankfully, they parked themselves neatly on the verge like it had been left there on purpose.
The problem with towing cattle is that they move around, making your nose weight a bit variable.
 
You just have to remember that it's a car, and not a tractor. ;)
Me I'd change the hook to something suitable, but make sure that all the pins used have little slop, so shock loads to the bar are kept under control.
Also make sure the trailer brakes work correctly, as the vehicle isn't rated for an unbraked trailer over 750kg, as again this put excessive load on the tow bar and chassis.
Unfortunately these modern LRs aren't really designed for heavy farm work, in the way the old defender was, so some respect for the vehicle is needed.

Also make sure the oil is changed regularly, and the filter is installed correctly too, as both these things are thought to reduce crankshaft failure, which is unfortunately common on the 3.0 TDV6.

As a towing vehicle the Disco 4 is the best I have ever used- far better than a Defender especially SWB.
I realise that in terms of out and out robustness (especially the tdv6) the Disco 4 may need caution.
