Have just bought a 2007 TDv8 Range Rover and had a height adjustable tow bar fitted by the dealer. I have used numerous towbars before over the years on Range Rovers/Audis/Subaru etc. These have been of either the fixed or detachable type but they have all been totally rigid in their fixing.

My query is that this towbar has movement in it. The set up is normal in that a reinforced new rear cross member is fitted which has a central square hole in it. One then has a separate L-section bar (the short arm of the L is the drop plate and the long arm of the L one inserts into the cross member hole and then a large pin is inserted to "lock" the unit. However if I grasp the 50mm ball I can move it up/down/left/right by a 1/8th inch. Surely there should be no slop?

I shall ring the dealer to ask the question but I find it not normal. Any comments?
I have not towed with it yet.
