Hi

I need a bit of advice. I am looking at fitting a towbar to my 05 TD4 Hse. The first question is will the towball interfere with the reverse parking sensors?

I've been looking at the electric kits available. I have found dedicated standard N type kits that just plug in. If i use one of these what happens with audible warning for indicators?
Secondly is there a dedicated s type kit for the caravan bits or will I have to wire this in the "traditional" method.

Any recomendations on types and makes of towbar electrics and suppliers gratefully accepted.

Any will do.
I was told the same when I had my KV6 - and was persuaded to buy one of those removable tow hitches coz "it interferes with the parking sensors" - like buggery - I left the tow hitch on in the end. If it causes a problem then fit a switch in the reversing sensor system to disable it when you are towing - or better still, rig up a relay that automatically disables the parking sensors when the towing electrics are coupled up.

I got a genuine Landrover detachable one from ebay for £70 with the dedicated plug in 'n' socket kit.

Like MHM I've since found that it doesn't interfere with the rear sensors if it's left in (not that I do cos I think tow-hitches look crap).

The electrics kit comes with a replacement flasher relay and when the kit is fitted it enables the trailer signal warning light in the instrument cluster so no need for that annoying beeper that keeps waking the little darlings up throughout the journey.

The 's' socket electrics will have to be wired in the usual way including a direct +feed.

I have the removeable Freelander bar which I am delighted with. no problem with the initial fitting and the electrics work perfectly. Neither bar or trailer bother the sensors.The excellent removeable hitch is typical German engineering.

Got a bargain there didn't you chaser. Genuine Landrover removable bar on e-bay about £220. Cheapest is a Witter at about £190. Single electrics about £40!

Whilst I accept I did get a bargain I don't think that one will sell at that price! They usually go for under £100, they come up fairly often too so if your in no hurry keep an eye open on there.

Check if any main dealers are selling off Freelander 1 stuff cheaply. 2/3 years ago I paid £98 including electrics and delivery for mine from Duckworth's.
Incidentally a sign of the times - my nearest main dealer has closed!
I would recommend the genuine Freelander removeable bar, its well made and nice not to spoil the back of the car when it's not needed.
I only ever bought one Witter bar (many moons ago) , maybe they are better now, I hope so.

Cheers guys. I dropped on a genuine LR brand new S type socket kit for £20 this week on ebay. I'm looking out for the rest now.

If you put a block of wood or a cardboard box in the position a NON removable tow hitch would occupy and the sensors don't pick it up then you don't need a removable one.

Good thinking Ianda. Why didn't I think of that!

I understand that Dixon Bate towbars are the same as LR original equipment. Is this right? I have seen a new Dixon Bate fixed one with electrics at a good price.
