I have a Freelander II 2013 TD4 XS and I always wanted a Tow Bar, but when I purchased the Freelander from new the salesman talked me out of a factory fitted optional extras version based on the prohibitive cost (I could hire a van about 40 times).
Anyway now that the Freelander is 3 years old I was thinking about getting one fitted now.
I live in North Devon and was wondering what my options where? Landrover Dealer, Local Garage, Mobile 'we fit', or DIY?
I don't want a shoddy job, nor do I want to ruin the integrity of the car so what are my options and rough costs?

Fitting the tow bar and electrics is a DIY job. You will need to get the CCU update to include towing electrics. This then disables the PDC system when towing and also activates some different parameters in the ESP/ABS system.

Many thanks - any recommendations on a supplier and what I need? Also where do you get the ECU updates and how do you install them? I have read lots of stories about electrics problems?

Whitter make the best tow bars, so you just need to find a stockist. You'll need the wiring too.
There are a few options for the CCU update.
1st is find a dealer happy to do it.
2nd is find an auto electrician that has the necessary equipment.
3rd is to find someone close to you that has a Gap Diagnostics IID tool that can do it for you.
