Hi all. I have a small trailer that I’d like to use with my S3. The tow ball as it’s fitted now is about 13 cm too high for my wee trailer. I found an old drop plate in my box of bits and then got to searching forums on how to fit it. One of the kits suggested it was 2 x 16mm and 2 x 10mm bolts. Now, none of the holes drilled in the drop plate I have matches the 16 and 10mm holes. I’ve circled what I assume to be the correct 10mm holes in red.

Then I started looking for a new drop plate and the pictures I’ve found (1 example attached for ease) and the holes on these don’t match either. So then I started to think it was the higher 10mm holes (blue), but surely not because the tub fixings plates would get in the way.

Does anyone have a drop plate fitted and enlighten me please? Many thanks in advance.

PS since posting this I’ve found another thread suggesting indeed a spacer so the thing can attach to the blue 10mm holes. So, I’ll delve into this first. Sorry for the bother.

Just taken mine off, going for a week's touring off road, so needed to lose the hitch. I had a Dixon bate adjustable drop plate. This has a piece of angle section steel bolted under the cross member, which has two extra holes for the M16 bolts.

Thank you. I’ve googled the Dixon Bate…..too expensive for me. Enjoy your off-road tour.

Iirc the series x member has some holes in the bottom face, this is for a piece of angle iron to attach to to allow the drop plate to fix to the angle iron to save twisting the rear x member.

Standard drop plate for series at John Craddock £23, couple of fat washers will do instead of silly priced plate in @Wildefalcon post. Bolts will be imperial size.
