hi all looking for a way to store tools and recovery equipment in a type drawer system in the rear of my disco1 still need to use the platform above the tools i got 3 dogs need out all the while, anybody got any idears about making any pics would be most welcome anyone done this themselfs would like to do myself any advice welcome any links also would be gratefull regards colin

I have done similar in mini-vans for market traders and an electrician.

I used sheets of thick ply-wood and held them apart with 'planks' of the same. This formed a series of deep 'pigeon holes'

Doing it yourself means that the holes are the right size for your current tools. (Much wailing when the new kit didn't fit)

The whole lot can be dis-assembled for a change of vehicle or made to be removeable on a more frequent basis.

One of these held a drawer for smaller kit which was replaced by tool cases.

I recommend fitting front and back boards so things don't slide and damage seats and boot door. hinges on this are fiddly and best to just have a board that lifts clean away.

I have made up two plywood boxes to fit under the front seats in a 93 build. although only small its surprising how much stuff will fit in. In a prevoius vehicle (Mitsubishi Pajero) I had made a cabinet over the wheel arches at the back. This was fairly narrow 5" but about 18" long and a foot deep.

Another thought is having recessed cabinet in the rear tail gate.

Colin, I would have thought that chequer plate may have been a bit slippy for the dogs if they are jumping in and out.
I know our dog doesn't like jumping on or off slippy surfaces in the cargo section and if you cover the top with rubber or carpet, it won't be apparent to the local villains.
