Hi

Having a problem with my recently purchased 110 v8 station wagon.
Planning to take it on a 3 week trip round france and have just had it fully serviced and have fitted new water pump, temp sensor, thermostat, radiator, alternator to be on the safe side, but the temperature guage rises to nearly max deflection after 2-3 miles. No classic signs of "overheating", no boiling over, nothing more than a very slight hiss from catch tank cap when removed, no power loss and oil temp guage never goes beyond just past halfway even on the motorway or in town traffic.
I do think the guage is at fault, but I know little or nothing of rover v8s and after a run, say 20 miles+, the top hose and top of radiator are very hot. Too hot to touch for long, and the under bonnet temp in general seems high, is this normal for an unloaded v8 110? The lower hose is just warm not hot and rad temp gets evenly cooler towards bottom.

Any advice would be hepful.

Regards

Mark

My old Hybrid lump used to warm up that quickly too but when we were on an open run with no stop/moving she was fine. This was a P6 V8 lump so I fitted a Kenlowe with a manual overide. It's worth checking your coolant mixture, V8s don't like a weak mixture.

Regards WP.

I also have a 110 V8, The tem also rises very quickly to just below the red and always just sits there.

people if its normal and they say yes, also asked a mate from a landrover specialist, they said its a bit high, but could be a diesel gauge on there??
So I’m still looking into this.

After driving the landrover, under the bonnet is always very hot, but does cool down reasonably quickly when the engine is turned off.

Scott.

Mines the opposite, in the cold it will only rise to just above the cold end of the scale & in hot weather about 1/2 scale.
It has had a new radiator core.

Regarding touching the pipes, i'd expect that. Any engine is going to get to 70-80 degrees, and that is too hot to touch!

I'm going to be fitting an electric fan. Not kenlowe, but mondeo from scrappy (about 5 times cheaper!)

Hi

Turned out that the high temp reading was due to two things, firstly the new genuine parts water pump was faulty ! ! and new temp sensor was the wrong one.

the water circulates that way. the water cools on the way down the rad. water pump draws the cooler water from the bottom of the rad.
hence the top hose is very hot and the bottom hose is cooler.

I havent read all this thread 'cos Iv'e had to much to drink but I thought you might like to know that water (H2O) is at its densest at 4 degrees C.
