So have just returned from a very long "faultless" drive in my P38.

No overheating no warning lights. All good.

Then...............................:crutch:

About 3 miles from home the Engine Management Light came on and the rev counter started to flick up and down repeatedly. The power dropped and I crawled home at 30mph (Couldn't go much faster). The car stopped completely twice when I was slowing to a near halt, but it did restart easily. (Big Shock when the power steering stops working!!!). A lot of faults showed on the info pane (Gearbox Fault etc) but I think that was just caused by the sudden stop and restart, anyway that fault went.

Managed to get home.

I am thinking Crank Speed Sensor wire has come lose (That's what it seemed like). Going to check later.

Any other things to check?

Thanks as always.

Doesn't a iffy alternator produce similar results? Just a guess from other cars dash displays going loopy

Gearbox fault is caused by coasting with engine stopped. Sounds like your in tank pump may have failed. But a bit of diag will do no harm to see if any quantity servo faults show.

Engine management light on suggests CPS, could also be the alternaotr though or even a loose connection on the battery.

similar to my alternator failure loads of faulrs being thrown up as the battery was draining down

Or indeed fuel starvation which would also cause the rev counter to fluctuate. And the gearbox fault to show as the car coasted with the engine dead. But as long as she has found the trouble all is well.

Thank you Rachel, aren't you glad you didn't sell it ;):D

She is a very expensive garage ornament at the moment, no point in selling, never ever recoup even half what I have spent on her. I am spending all my cash converting all the interior to wood. Nearly done now. Looks fabulous!!
