Hi all,
My compressor has blown for the rear air bags again... 2nd one in 2 years, 13k miles, and Land Rover say it's not covered by warranty... handy.

Anyway, im damned if im going to fork out on another compressor for it only to last another 13 months so i wondered if anyone had converted their rear suspension to springs?

The nice people at the garage say that it will handle badly with coils but i believe the 'S' model Disco 2 has springs all round? So it cant be that bad?

Any help appreciated.

Best thing I did was move to coils. No more hassles from one part of it at least!

But, I don't tow or have a lot of people in the back so didn't get the full advantage of air anyway.

Lots will argue either side of this, but it comes down to how to use your D2 in my book as to whether it's worth maintaining or not.

Hi.
My D2 has been converted to coils,also had the ACE removed,it does wallow slightly but nothing to be concerned about,if you do convert i would fit uprated springs to compensate.

Do i need to change the shock absorbers as well as the coils?

i'll get the 7 seater rated springs, i dont tow but i do carry a pretty heavy kayak and stuff regularly.

I think 7 seaters had airbags fitted not coils,mine is/was a 7 seater.Just fit yellow coils,i had new shocks fitted as well,may as well do it right.
 
Originally all seven seaters had air, but later LR got type approval for coils. So you can buy coils specifically for seven seaters.
 
Have read recently that the airbags start to become a bit porous after around 10 years or so.
They then gradually leak a bit but not at a rate that makes you realise they are leaking, so the pumps run much harder than designed for shortening their life drastically
 
My 2004 has just a few months ago had two new airbag after one of the old ones went bang not bad saying they haven't ever been changed before
 
Part number is RKB000340 I think but I only had a quick look so don't take my word for it
 
My D2 is just over ten years old, is it worth changing the bags as preventative maintenance, or just wait until they leak?

TBH I would love to convert my suspension, to air all round
 
Definitely s good idea to go with preventative maintenance. Easy to swop too.

Then you can keep the existing ones as get you home spares.
 
Son converted his D2 ES to coils with a Terrafirma 2" lift kit, plus we took the ACE off.

Mine was already coils but took ACE off back in July.

No really difference without ACE, handles just the same to me.

Philip's seems harsher, might just be the new shocks etc.
