Not been on much lately and may not be about at all in the future.
The old girl was costing to much to fix and keep on the road, so she had to go.
If anyone is interested I have put a couple of adds in the parts forum.
"Freeland 1
5 Continental cross contact 215/65r16 with wheels
4 with 6-7 mm
and spear unused at 9mm
£150 collection only"
and
"Set of Genuine Land Rover Freelander - Roof Bars (lockable) with bag.
£20 collection only"

Never spoke to you before mate it is sad to see a member leave sorry to hear about your freelander they are not the cheapest things to keep on the road
 
I'm not so sure they cost much to keep on the road. They are of an age where things wear out and need replacement, but parts are simple and cheap and there is little in the way of depreciation to lose. Compared to a newer car which may not need quite so much maintenance (although that's not guaranteed), but where there will be depreciation and parts are more complex and expensive - they offer great value for money.

Whether you do the maintenance yourself or put the car into a garage can make a difference.

Often, I think it really depends on whether you want to keep up with the Jones's or your LZ buddies :)
 
I'm with GG on costs. My D3 was newer than my current FL1 SE. The D3 cost more in parts over the 2 years that I owned it than I paid for the entire FL1 SE!! So the FL1 is a cheap to maintain and repair vehicle by modern standards.

I doubt I’ll convince you, but I help my mates fix their non-Land Rovers. Parts are almost always harder to get, more expensive, and you generally have to buy a whole ‘unit’ instead of the individual bits.

My mate’s Rav4 is a case in point - got to 120k and bits started to fall off. The repair costs were too high - even with us doing all the work - so he sold it for £1500. 4 years ago he bought it for £8000.

Toyota: - Reliable - Disposable.

Spot on. Parts for nearly all modern cars are much more expensive than the equivalent part on the Freelander. Even service item's cost considerably more than they do for the Freelander. So in reality, the Freelander is a cheap to maintain and vehicle.
 
i could only go by the experience I have had with mine when I first got it , but from what I have read and spoken to my son in law I stand corrected . Apart from the fact they look far nicer imo than most boxes on the road they are no worse / expensive than most other cars

Always sorry to see any leave, and has been said, stick around the family is always there when you need them.
Odd, but for me I'm in for the long Hall. Decided to stick with the 03 TD4 Its on 105,000 mls. All the brakes replaced, Calipers, dics + wheel cyl etc, Vcu. the list could go on. Having said that all done by me onesicle which kept the bills down of course. And not all done at once and in one year, just as they came up.The main reason I'm sticking with it is probably what has been stated in above threads. Work colleagues spend huge sums on what I call contract cars they will never own, or trade in at the slightest problem they encounter. Not saying you have though! The money they spend on Cars will never come near the low end figure i have spent on bits for mine. I suppose it comes down to what miles you do and what for. Tops I'm on 5_7 thou a year, and a full service each time.
I know it won't last forever, but while it's costing me so little to get where i want to go at 40+ to the Gallon off and on road I can't see me getting rid.
