Thought I'd get around to change the temp sensor on my 99 4.6 today. Gauge hasn't been working for three years-I use phone and torque lite.

Changed it over after cutting my 24mm spanner in half and moving the alternator and air con compressor and the same no reading on gauge.

Checked with torque lite app-still recording temp so I assume new sensor is partially or fully working. I read that it has two in built sensors -one for engine the other for the gauge. The engine one feeds the OBD.

So could it be a wire (don't think so-they seem ok as far as I can see), possibly the gauge itself or does the signal run through the BCM.

Any advice greatly received.

I think most of the stuff for the instrument cluster goes via the BECM, a look at RAVE would confirm.
 
The guage sensor does indeed go through the BECM. Nanocom could check if the guage sensor reads the same as the engine sensor I think...
