Greetings all, I am hoping someone out there can enlighten me on my efforts to reconnect my V8 on a Discovery 2. In reconnecting the ignition coil pack I noticed that there were two small earth wires coming out of the loom in this area, with end fittings to allow them to be screwed down somewhere.

I have placed these under each of the two screws that pass thru the coil pack bracket and go into the upper intake manifold. On start up the engine is misfiring, and the battery charge light remains fixed. No OBDII codes are generated.

Clearly I have some diagnosis to go chasing, but if someone can confirm if I have goofed on these two small earth leads close to the coil packs I'd be really grateful.

The loom has so many unused connectors that it has proven difficult to understand what should and should not be connected up, & having not stripped the engine down I don't even have my poor memory to fall back on!

Cheers.

The two green wires are for the two big capacitors that are in the loom. I believe that these were discontinued on later builds.

On ours they go under the M8 bolts at the back of the heads.

Check you have the two connections on the alternator and the earth strap between the n/s head and the bulkhead.

Thanks Peter. Looking at the access to the rear of the heads now leaves me thinking they can stay put. Battery light was extinguished after a good contacts clean. Misfire remains, but manual states that if the flywheel has been off then the crankshaft position sensor adaptive values must be reset. Potential malfunctions listed match where I'm at, so I now need to find someone with a suitable piece of kit to do this. There is a good LR Independent near me (RVS,Crewkerne), I will speak to them. Cheers.
