Does anyone have experience of the Bosch ECM on a Thor failing? I have been around the block trying to get my engine running smoothly, with help from Peter and Philip. The ECM is logging multiple faults, such as O2 sensor issues, rough road signals, multiple misfires etc. The O2 sensors have been replaced twice now, we have checked power to the sensors, tried a new MAF sensor, and a lot more such as new coil packs, plugs, leads etc.

Bearing in mind that there was an issue with a connection to the ECM causing petrol usage as well as LPG usage, and the problems started about the time this was fixed, I am suspicious that it could be the ECM that is faulty. However several people have said that ECMs don't often fail. In my mind this is a 16+ year old piece of electronics and I know that electronics can deteriorate over time, particularly components such as capacitors. Do they often fail, or is it unlikely?

I have a spare ECM on loan from Peter, but of course it will not work unless matched to my vehicle using TestBook, and this will cost even more money to do. I am going to try this anyway, as I have no better ideas after many "experts" have already looked at this.

If it doesn't fix it then I'm all out of solutions and I will have by now spent a few K on a car that is still unusable.

Post this in the Range Rover section too.....there are chaps in there who don't venture in here that often....

The Engine ECUs are pretty robust....

To match the spare, all you have to do is get the security codes synced as far as I know........this can be done with a syncmate, Nanocom or Faultemate....much cheaper than a dealer with a Testbook.

Good to know, but as I don't know anyone locally with any of those bits of kit it doesn't help me too much. Thanks.

post your rough location up, and someone might be along to help you.... I have been pleasantly surprised.... some great folk on here:)
