Been swapping bits over between Philip's engine and our spare lump.

Nearly all done, hope to get back in the car if the rotten weather dries up:

Looks good, I presume that is LPG injection you have added,( I dont know about v8's )
I have got to do a headgasket on the 4.0 Thor engine at the weekend. Are they simple or tricky.

Ohh and Keep the pictures coming :)

L90, do BOTH gaskets while you are there. Peter, dont forget to check the two little Tig welds that hold the CPS bracket into the block.

Ha ha yes I am doing both :). I need to get the heads skimmed aswell as it is the 3rd time it has had new headgaskets in its life ( nearly 200k )
Not sure it has ever been skimmed.
If you know of anywhere in the midlands ?

Sorry to have hijacked you thread with my headgasket talk :)

Always do, our first 'wreck' of an engine had it Araldited in place....

Ref the head gaskets, always use a decent brand, DON'T buy from ebay, use Reintz or another decent brand, not least because at least you'll get valve stem seal that fit. They need to be composite gaskets, not the steel shim type as well.

I did a big write up on the original rebuild back in 2009, we bought the car with a wrecked/bodged 4.6 in it. We bought a new genuine short engine and fitted that, plus all the odds and sods that needed doing.

Unfortunately that is on another forum:

New V8i 3.9 Disco owner

Takes you through the whole process from initial purchase and stripdown to the final result. We'll have had it on the road 5 years come 19th July.

One thing we found out was that cross-bolted engines come in two flavours, and the one we bought wasn't a Thor version, but it was only the crankshaft pickup casting that had to be modified, and we have a new one to put in if we ever take the engine out for any reason.

It's what we have, same as the ones on my car, The LPG ECU is also Zavoli.

No reason to change, especially given the price for a set of new 2 X 4 valves.

We may have been lucky, ours were originally fitted in 2005, we fitted new valve sets a couple of years back and so far they have been good.

We do clean the oily residue out every once in a while.
