After much debate and sitting about thinking about it, I have decided to go for a similar paint colour as Aarron used on one of his previous re-builds.
I'm not going to have time to do a total re-build on the old girl - bits have been done over the course of the past couple of years and I'm fairly happy with the mechanical side of things -
The old girl is a G-reg 110 - the astute amongst you may notice it has 'Defender' on the front - this is because the front has been, at some stage, replaced.
You will also notice it has a 300TDi under the hood and the bulkhead is green...
Well, sort of dirty green....
So, the plan is to King / Double cab her, but as finding a roof is not as easy, I decide I wanted to at least do a basic tart-up and re-spray so its all one colour. If a DC roof pops up, I can simply add it into the mix.
Have done most of the welding required and now its time to sort out the bodywork and interior - as this is my work wagon, I can't strip it all down in one go sadly.
So, having seen the colour Aarron used on one of his many rebuilds, he told me it was Ford RS Blue - Cheers for that Chap! - Before making up my mind 100%, I decided to get a rattle can and try it out first - at £46/L +VAT I want to be sure!
So, off came the air flappy vents and they got a rub down from white - which evidently had been put on with a catapult - through the green and then sort of flat...
Coat of rattle can Etch Primer later:
Then decided that that may not be enough to decide, so had the front grill panel out, rubbed back and primed:
Then got bored and took the bonnet catch panel etc out as it looked grubby:
And cleaned up all the bits and gave them a coat of howsyourfather:
I will be putting a coat of the blue on the 3 panels tomorrow - I did a test spot on an old bit of tin and I do like the colour - as this is my 1st attempt at base colour and lacquer, I am not expecting it to be top bollock quality, which is why I chose 3 bits I can either re-do or hide!
In my mind, the interior is sorted... Grey lining and blue seats - I have found some seats I like here:
Sure someone will tell me I'm mad....
Will try and keep posting pics and await much ****-taking for doing everything the wrong way round, but hey, I'm on the Isle of Wight, and we do things differently over here!
