If you think that's strange you should see the new Civic, got caught in
traffic with one the other day.

Anyway, it's to be made in Malasia or is it S. Korea and will have other
badges for other markets.
Due for sale in the UK in Autumn 2006 (about the same time as the new
Freelander).

I'm not so sure about that, one of the Jeeps, the Patriot, will be a proper
4x4 not a Softroader and the "G" Wagon might well give the Rangie a shock,
after all, the old version ain't bad.

I actually like the look of that, it's so Citroen, back to the days when
they made unusual looking vehicles full of innovation and then suffered
because they were the first and had to iron out all the bugs.
Take a look at a Light 15, and compare it with what our car industry were
making at the time.

One of our local main agents has (very proudly) got a stack of "What Car"
supplements on their counter today. This compares a lot of the competition
with Discovery III. The Discovery III wins, but, though I looked through
the whole thing, there was absolutely no mention of the really critical
stuff - ground clearence, approach angles, breakover angles, max tilt,
wading depth etc, etc.

Says an awful lot about the current 4x4 market, and even more about the
mag!

Those things are of no interest to the vast majority of customers, indeed
they wouldn't know or care what those phrases meant, they buy for other
reasons.
Very few buyers of new ones want them or need them for their real 4 x 4
ability and if they were only bought by those that do they wouldn't be made,
it would be uneconomic. We have something to thank these buyers for after
all. :)

Yes you have a point there Bob the Traction Avant was french car ahead of
its time when our industry was just building the Jaguar XK120, Morris Minor
Traveller. Triumph TR2 roadster,Austin Champ,AC Ace which you have to admit
were pretty iconic in their own right sadly that was when we still had a
motor industry .You the remember to keep it on perspective the 2CV was
about at that time <cough>. I have a deal of respect for the Maserati
engined SM but as you say if you can't iron out the bugs in your technology
you are dans Creek de' Merde and god knows the suspension problems were
known about for long enough probably why BMC had a try at the idea as
well( idiots).

To be fair, there's not a lot wrong with the Citroen's suspension. OK, you
get problems with rust making the pipes fail, but that's more penny-pinching
by accountants - it's exactly the same reason why your brake pipes rust on
pretty much any vehicle - steel ones are cheaper for the manufacturer to fit
that corrosion-resistant ones such as Kunifer, or better yet suitable
stainless steel.

And the 2CV was for years the only production saloon capable of crossing
the Sahara unmodified. 2CV's do very well in RTV trials,reportedly
usually finishing in the top of the lower half.
