Well if that's it it not for me. It's a discovery 5 chopped. That a pc defender type loads of electronic this and that good for the school run. I think that will be a fail yes I see it can go round corners fast great. That not what a defender should be in my opition it should be a road going small tractor like it was. I am disgusted at that . Real defenders will increase in value now someone needs fired at landrover
 
Dont be silly. It isnt 1980.

It will probably sell in spades. There is a rather large market for Luxury Defenders now, just look at Mr Kahn and his £80k monstrositys, Twisted, UrbanTruck I could go on.... Not many people wanted the current Defender, it wasnt selling well, was costly to build and there where better 4x4s around for less.

If you want a "modern" 4x4 like that buy the Jimny.

Remember people said the same thing about the TD5 when it came out, "too much leccy" "cant fix it with a hammer" 20 years on its still being used and people love it.

That and look at the Velar, Evoque 2 and D5. All perform brilliantly off road, on road tyres. The same cant be said for the Defender without adding good tyres and some decent diffs.
 
So sell one with decent tyres and diffs......
My concern is that the basic model won't be basic at all. I don't need a canbus to tell the indicators to flash or wave my foot by the exhaust to open the boot.
Standards may have risen but cheap and utilitarian will still sell.

And other companies have filled the demand, which is small by comparison.

I love my 110 more than anything but it has cost me alot to make it bearable as a proper daily. That and repairs, maintenance, long nights and longer weekends fixing bits.

The new Defender is not aimed at us. It never was. Ill happily buy one to keep along side my 110, would be vastley mosre comfortable on long trips and likely as capable.
 
You can guarantee that the new Defender will be stupidly expensive. There are much cheaper 4x4s out there that do exactly the same, most built by Japanese and Americans. If I was going to buy a new 4x4 it would probably be a Ford Wildtrack or a Hilux.

Yes I'm sure it'll sell loads, but mostly to customers who would probably have just bought a Discovery or Range Rover. I don't see it broadening JLR's current customer base that much.

Apart from us type of Landy enthusiasts, there are still a hell of a lot of Series/90/110/Defenders out there being used purely as working vehicles - farmers and country folk who just need a basic load lugging Landy that can get wet/dirty/mucky, dogs in the back etc. etc. The 'new Defender' isn't for them either, so what do they replace their's with? The military here and abroad still run a lot of Defenders. What will replace them?

I spoke to someone who saw one of the prototype Defenders and he remarked to the designers 'nice, but where does the dead sheep go?' .......... don't think they listened.
 
Don't worry, I have just done a quick google and Toyota still make a proper Defender. (They call it a 79 Series Land Cruiser)
What a revolutionary idea, simple ladder chassis, beam axles, utilitarian body and interior, it'll never catch on.
