I apologise to all but I need to rant!

I've been doing a rebuild of my 110 for what seems like forever, having taken it off the road to do the heads and carbs and that broken exhaust stud, and then finding the brake pipes were dodgy and replacing all of them, including the one round the front that meant I found a weep in the rad so I've replaced it, then I might as well just service the steering box and sort that annoying little leak, then ditto for the transfer box leak, and while I'm at it I'll paint the chassis and oh look the fuel lines look a little rough and one's just snapped so I'll replace them, and the doors need stripping and new felt and seals, and I might as well sort that annoying drip on my right knee, and... and... and...

So now I'm gradually getting there and having got the heads and manifolds back on months ago I thought today I'd sort the exhausts (did I mention that the downpipes were knackered?). I got the front to mid union sorted, including fire gum (my theory was to connect everything up and cure the fire gum with a blow torch), and slathered the right hand manifold and down pipe up and then fought to get the nuts on. I'd put copper-slip on the threads (like my pappy told me to) and was doing them up evenly, but long before they tightened up there was that worrying feel and then the first stud snapped. As the RAF had seen fit to use two studs I thought I'll push on but as I started to tighten the second one (and I was using an extension and socket by hand without a wrench so torque was hardly an issue) the second one sheared.

I will not repeat what I said as Land Rover owners are gentle souls but, suffice to say, I was a little unhappy. I now have to take off the exhaust manifold that I had so lovingly fitted, and drill and extract the studs (again), and probably end up doing a thread repair (again).
