Evening all

Had a lovely day yesterday collecting our Christmas tree in my series 3 until I heard a clattering noise and something definitely falling off the vehicle

. Have been back to the road this evening and the only debris that looks like it could have come from Solihull’s finest is a bracket as per the attached photos.

Any ideas on whether it has come from my Landy and where it should usually sit? I’ve tried to have a brief look under the vehicle in the dark but nothing immediately obvious

.

All suggestions appreciated as always.

No idea, but it looks suspiciously like a bracket for a handbrake cable, or similar.

Not something that I recognise.
Looks like something made or adapted to hold a cable of some sort.
My guess was that it was added to stop the speedometer cable from roasting itself on the exhaust system.

Hmmmm given no one has instantly recognised the offending object I’ll have to go back to have another look to see if anything else roadside looks like it has come off the landy

. Definitely made a clatter as it fell off whatever it was

Part of a spring ? Maybe a home made bracket for a past job ?

Bracket usually found on plant trailers, to stop overrun brake cables from dragging on the road, I suspect the tyre caught it, and flicked it up under your vehicle

I would say.. if something went with a clatter that you could hear in a moving series, it's something bigger than a bracket. Maybe an engine or possibly a gearbox? Do you still have these?
If it's a diesel then maybe you lost an axle.
Did the roof fall off? That would go with a clatter

lol thanks everyone for your input. I agree that usually I cannot hear a thing in my series 3 but was only going about 10 miles an hour so definitely heard something clatter. I also found part of a broken u-bolt but checked all my axles and they’ve got 4 on each. Very strange. Hoping that perhaps I did hit it and it flew up and nothing fell off…. Certainly I’ve not noticed anything not working since

I’ll have a good poke around bonnet and engine bay on the weekend to see if anything obvious is missing

. Still… keeps me out of the mrs’ hair
